Bulbul director Paudel arrives with new movie “Rubber City”

KATMANDOU: Binod Paudel, director of Bulbul, is soon preparing a new feature film “Rubber City”.

Shot in the United States, this film is a story of the struggles of Bhutanese refugees who languished in Nepal for over a decade and then resettled in the United States.

The “Rubber City” team shared the poster on social media on December 1.

Abeeral Thapa, one of the film’s producers, has said that filming for the entire film will take place in the United States and will include, among others, actors Sushank Mainali, Bikram Kumar Sharma and Radha Sharma Lamsal.

Mainali will be seen in the lead role.

Director Paudel had been trying to get grants for this film for years, and he even presented the project at the Busan Asian Project Market in 2019.

However, due to Covid-19 and the pandemic, the project was delayed due to which he had to wait to receive grants.

Thapa has stated that Kirtana Banskota, Abeeral Thapa, Yatin Parkhani, Bhakta Rijal and Raju Paudel will be producing this film.

Poudel’s first film “Bulbul”, released in 2019, won several awards including the national award for best director.

It was also officially submitted to the 93rd Academy Award in the Best Foreign Language of Nepal category.

Paudel said he was looking for other actors for the film.

“We are trying to introduce new faces into this film,” he said, adding: “We want to encourage Nepalese residing in the United States who have the potential to act but have never worked in films. . “

The film crew is auditioning for the lead female role of around 24 or 25 this month.

Ankit Poudel, whose short was shortlisted at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival, will capture the film as director of photography.

Thapa said they plan to complete “Rubber City” by 2022. He added that post-production work will be done in the United States and India.

The film will premiere at film festivals around the world and then release in Nepal.
