Cannes Film Festival 2022: The Iconic Indians’ spellbinding style moments

there are movies festivalsand then there is walking sticks. Away from the snowy streets of Park City and bustling Toronto, it is indeed the most glamour ode to cinema in the world. This year’s 75th edition featured a tribute to Tom Cruise with the prestigious Palme d’Or at the premiere of Top Gun: Maverick. The official festival poster was designed as a tribute to The Truman Show (1998).

The festival has regained its full capacity of spectators after the last two editions as a precautionary measure on the COVID-19 restrictions in France. The highly anticipated festival showcased the best in international cinema, showcasing the talents of actors, directors and film crews from around the world. The Cannes 2022 red carpet featured a slew of famous faces and their unique fashion sense, from midday photocalls to gala premieres.

As in years past, the stars got their fill of glamor on the red carpet. This year, the Indian contingent came out in large numbers. Here, check out the best looks, from first jury member Deepika Padukone to other veteran members and Cannes regulars who joined this year included Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui among others.

Special nod to Indian heritage as a member of the jury

After her many appearances as a L’Oréal brand ambassador in Cannes, Deepika Padukone entered the prestigious list of jury members this year. She gave a special nod to her Indian roots by donning a personalized Sabyasachi saree on the red carpet. Inspired by the Bengal tiger, the embellished saree featured the stripes in shades of black and gold.

Indian jewelers know a thing or two about creating a jewelry moment and Sabyasachi did it with Deepika Padukone, one of the jurors at this year’s festival. She wore the designer’s cascading multi-gemstone chandelier earrings with a matching headband that was an art nouveau twist on a matha patti, the traditional headpiece worn by Indian brides.

Deepika walked the red carpet in the Louis Vuitton printed dress with a dramatic oversized sleeve on day nine of the Cannes Film Festival. Well, she wore a light green colored outfit with pink roses and green colored leaves all over her dress with matching boots on the streets of Cannes.

For the next look, she opts for a fashion house known for its architectural designs – Ashi Studio. Padukone’s orange dress commands so much admiration, especially for the fabric blends in a sculpted piece that doesn’t shy away from making a statement. The outfit is custom and appears to be a moderation of a look from Ashi Studio’s Spring 2022 couture collection.

New concept Venus and other Indian film industry delegates

A veteran film festival member and one of Cannes’ most famous Indians, actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan made headlines as she walked the red carpet in a custom Dolce & Gabbana dress. Her monochromatic Valentino pink look, straight off the Fall 22/23 runway, has become one of the actress’ most eye-catching sartorial moments. On May 18, she attended the screening of “Top Gun: Maverick”.

The actress chose a custom sculpted pink Gaurav Gupta Couture look to offset the red carpet at Cannes. Gaurav Gupta describes Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s entire red carpet at Cannes 2022 as “The Birth of Venus”. The dress evokes her timeless charm and strong, effortless grace.

Film weightlifter and veteran member of the Cannes Film Festival, actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui made his presence on the red carpet and many other film industry delegates. Dressed in a classic tuxedo, Siddiqui was a remarkable representative of the Indian film industry on the world stage.

Aditi Rao Hydari accompanied her sheer and flowing black Sabyasachi dress with a perfect tanned face. Interestingly, her bare pink lips are mirrored in the classic 60s-style pale pink scarf tied on her head, encapsulating the collective power of when fashion brings beauty together. Likewise, we love the addition of a small bindi located at the focal point on the forehead – it’s not only a nod to Indian culture but also a stylish finishing touch.

Indian novices in Cannes

Joining the Indian delegation to the Cannes Film Festival, actress Tamannaah Bhatia made her debut. Seen in a Gauri & Nainika gown, Bhatia styled high octane in the form-fitting ensemble. The black and white duchess satin of the dress featured a plunging neckline and detailed sillage that enhanced the look.

Since her Cannes Film Festival debut in 2019, actress Hina Khan has served up some memorable fashion moments. For the poster launch of her upcoming Indo-English film, ‘Country of Blind’, Khan was seen in a custom Rami Al Ali dress posing near the French Riviera.

With or without this allergy, this pimple, acne, pigmentation, scar or whatever. Let’s do this. For us. All of us.”
