Marina Bay Sands Launches New Virtual Reality Gallery

Singapore’s integrated resort Marina Bay Sands announced on Saturday the opening of a new permanent virtual reality gallery at the ArtScience Museum.

Celebrating the 10th anniversary of the museum, opened in February 2011, the VR gallery will be equipped with state-of-the-art virtual reality headsets and controllers, encouraging visitors to explore unique immersive experiences from some of the most renowned artists, museums in the world. and film festivals.

“At the ArtScience Museum, we believe that new technologies such as virtual reality and augmented reality allow museums to create pioneering new experiences for the public,” said Honor Harger, Executive Director of the ArtScience Museum, Marina Bay Sands.

“Our new VR gallery on Level 4 is one of the first of its kind in Southeast Asia and will feature an ongoing program of cutting-edge virtual reality works by artists, filmmakers and scientists.

“Building on the success of our award-winning projects, In nature and REWILD our planet, the new VR gallery highlights ArtScience Museum as a destination for groundbreaking immersive experiences.

The gallery will open with a program called Hyperrealities, with works by contemporary artists Olafur Eliasson, Marina Abramović and Anish Kapoor.

MBS said strict COVID-19 security measures will be in place, including a safe distance between visitors seated in pod seats, mandatory hand disinfection and the wearing of a mask. Each visitor will also receive a sanitized VR headset, a disposable VR mask and a set of sanitized controllers, along with all contact surfaces and materials to be thoroughly sanitized after each session.

MBS, which announced in May that it had carried out mass tests on 7,500 employees, recently obtained approval to increase the capacity of its casino and to re-welcome customers to the establishment’s restaurants.
