House»New»Monster trailer: Mohanlal, Vysakh’s film is shaping up to be an action-packed thriller»
After a 10-month gap, Mohanlal is gearing up for its next theatrical release – Monster. And what makes it an anticipated project among fans is that it also marks the second collaboration of Pulimurugan’s team – director Vysakh, screenwriter Udaykrishna and Mohanlal. If the trailer, which was posted online on Sunday, was anything to go by, the movie has enough twists and turns to live up to the hype.
The trailer for the film, which also stars Lakshmi Manchu, Honey Rose, Siddique, Kailash, Lena and Sudev Nair, promises to be a gripping thriller that revolves around a mysterious stranger named Lucky Singh, tried by Mohanlal. We get glimpses of an ensuing police investigation surrounding a woman as well as a fake investigation, allegedly led by the protagonist. The trailer also reveals several action-packed moments and catchy background music from Deepak Dev. It also busts an earlier rumor that Monster would be a “zombie thriller.” The trailer had the tagline – “It takes a monster to take down a monster”. The film is currently set to hit theaters on October 21.
In a previous interview with OTTplay, Mohanlal said that one of the main reasons he decided to do the film with Vysakh and Udaykrishna during the pandemic was that it was their next film after Pulimurugan and there would always be this curiosity among fans of how the movie would be. It was the same strategy the film’s production company, Aashirvad Cinemas, used to greenlight films such as Drishyam 2 and Bro Daddy.
While Drishyam 2 was originally meant to be released in theaters in a bid to lure audiences into cinemas, it fell straight to Amazon Prime Video after cinemas in Kerala remained closed due to the pandemic lockdown. Bro Daddy, which also marked the reunion of Lucifer duo Prithviraj Sukumaran and Mohanlal, was a straight-to-OTT release on Disney+ Hotstar.
Mohanlal as Lucky Singh from Monster
The other three projects originally slated for OTT releases were 12th Man by Jeethu Joseph, Alone by Shaji Kailas, and Monster by Vysakh. 12th Man released on Hotstar and Alone is set to make its OTT premiere soon. However, the creators decided to release Vysakh’s Monster in theaters after realizing that it had the potential to attract audiences.
In a previous interview with OTTplay, Vysakh said he was confident Monster would work in both OTTs and cinemas due to the strength of its content. He had also said that the film would be different from previous ‘mass’ commercial artists he and Udaykrishna had teamed up in and that it was more of an experimental thriller that deals with a subject matter that has not never been told before in Malayalam.
Mohanlal will seek success with Monster as his previous two films – Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham and Aarattu did not do very well at the box office. The actor, meanwhile, is currently filming for Jeethu Joseph’s Ram, which also features Trisha, Indrajith Sukumaran and Adil Hussain. He has also completed work on his first film Barroz: Guardian of D’Gama’s Treasure.
