Nicolas Cage will not see his last film on the big screen.
The actor plays a creative version of himself in the upcoming The unbearable weight of massive talents, and a new interview takes a look at how the star got into character.
“That’s a really good question and I always try to answer it,” he told Collider how he approached the role. “One of my answers is that I’ll never see this movie. I’m told it’s a good movie. My manager, Mike Nilon, who is also a producer on it, watched it. He was very happy. I’ve been told audiences love the movie. But it’s just too much of a crazy trip for me to go to a movie theater and watch myself play [director] Tom Gormican’s highly neurotic and anxious version of me. “

Cage, 57, said the director “kept pushing me in this direction,” but the Oscar winner wants to make it clear that the version of him portrayed onscreen is not who he really is.
“I said ‘Tom, it’s not really me. [made of] quiet, meditative and thoughtful moments. I’m not that neurotic, nervous, anxious guy all the time. But he said, ‘Well the neurotic cage is the best Cage,’ ”the actor recalls. “I said, ‘Alright, alright. Let’s go, man. I’ll do whatever you want. ‘ I won’t see it. But I hope you enjoy it. “
In the film, Cage reluctantly accepts an offer of $ 1 million to perform at the party of one of his super fans, who also happens to be a Mexican billionaire, according to previous reports. When the party gets out of hand, Cage must rely on some of his iconic characters to save himself.
While the actor has starred in several blockbuster hits, Cage has turned to more eclectic roles in independent films in recent years.
“I see myself as a student of film performance a lot and I’m always looking to learn something,” Cage told PEOPLE. “That’s why if you look at my filmography, it’s so eclectic. I always try to challenge myself and take those risks and go for the triple axis, even though I might fall on my face. C it’s always exciting to go and you still get points for trying. “
