Chhorii’s exit coincidentally coincided with the announcement of more women than men in India for the first time since the first national census in 1876. According to the Department of Health’s latest National Family and Health Survey, he there are 1,020 women for every 1,000 men in India. In light of this recent news, the empowering update of the heroine, who previously would be powerless in such films, takes on symbolic significance.
