According to FDCP President and CEO Liza Diño-Seguerra, the event will be strictly by invitation for the winners due to health protocols. More than 70 winners will receive the awards this year.

Also in the spotlight are the films “Whether The Weather Is Fine (Kun Maupay It Panahon”) directed by Carlo Francisco Manatad and “Gensan Punch” by Brillante Mendoza.

Also to be mentioned are the films included in the A-list citation, namely “Big Night” by Jun Robles Lana, “On The Job: The Missing 8” by Erik Matti, “Ramdom People” by Arden Rod Condez, “Ariska” by Mikhael Red, and “Resbak” by Brillante Mendoza, among others.

We should also salute the award-winning actors at various international film festivals such as Elijah Canlas (“Kalel, 15”), Kit Thompson (“Belle Douleur”), Janine Gutierrez (“Dito at Doon”), Snooky Serna (“In The Name of the mother”), as well as directors like Carlo Ortega Cuevas (“Guerrero Dos, Tuloy Ang Laban”), Carlo Francisco Manatad (“Kun Maupay Man It Panahon”), Maria Dianne Ventura (“Your Color”) at Mcarthur Cruz Alejandre (“Tagpuan”).

Receiving a special citation is Kapamilya and “It’s Showtime” star Vice Ganda for the ABS-CBN show Everybody Sing. Vice won an award at the Asian TV Awards.

President Liza said it was important for Filipino films to continue to be competitive in the global market. “We are not short of talent, but we need to develop and expand our market because there is an audience that we can tap into and showcase our films.

“It is in this aspect that we need the help and support of the government. The film industry in Korea would not have been so important today without the support provided by their government. This is what we must achieve to meet the demands of the global market.”

It also needs the local film industry to need a big production to enable it to compete in the global market. It takes a big budget to make a film of comparable quality to the rest of the world.

Direk Brillante Mendoza presents a different kind of horror movie via Vivamax’s latest offering titled “Bahay na Pula” starring Julia Barretto, Xian Lim and Marco Gumabao.

Julia and Xian play a couple while Marco is Julia’s ex-boyfriend. Julia and Xian traveled to the province to settle the paperwork for the sale of Julia’s ancestral home. While working on their papers, Julia and Xian meet Marco who is still single.

There is a mystery in Julia’s ancestral home that will be uncovered. Is the ghost that lives there a representation of a horrific past or is it a danger that needs to be uncovered and exposed? If you don’t fix mistakes that happened in the past, it will haunt you in the present.

The screenplay written by Troy Espiritu addresses the plight of comfort women in Japanese times.

Julia did well in her role in her first horror film and her first acting assignment under the Cannes Best Director award.

The film has top-notch cinematography, editing, and musical score, which helped set the mood a lot.
