The 13th edition of the Bengaluru International Film Festival will be held in February 2022

The 13th edition of the Bengaluru International Film Festival (BIFFES) is scheduled to be held in February 2022. The announcement was made by the festival’s organizer, Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy.

The event was scheduled to take place in April 2021 but has been postponed due to the pandemic. A statement on the festival’s website read: “The COVID-19 pandemic has necessitated the postponement of most film festivals across the world, just as the 13th BIFFES is also postponed for one year from its previous editions (sic). “

The 12th edition was held from February 26 to March 4, 2020 in Bengaluru, where 220 films from over 60 countries were shown on 14 screens.

The statement further states: “Like its previous editions, competitive sections for Asian, Indian and Kannada cinemas will be organized and will reward the winners with a cash prize. Meanwhile, the films that have been selected in the different sections of the competition in 2021, will also be judged in this edition of the festival separately, for the respective prizes (sic).

However, while the situation with the Omicron variant of COVID-19 is unclear, the organizer is determined to hold a festival this year. As reported by The hindu Sunil Puranik, President of Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy, said: “Whatever the situation, the festival will take place in February 2022.”

He added that his organization will work according to state government guidelines when holding the next edition.
