The Asian Cinema Fund (ACF) 2022 resumes its programs after 2 years!

Asian Cinema Fund (ACF), a support program of the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) to showcase film projects by talented filmmakers from Korea and Asia, is accepting submissions.

Champion of Korean and Asian films, the Asian Cinema Fund (ACF) calls for applications

  • Post-Production Fund Application Dates: March 23 – April 20
  • Script Development Fund Application Dates: March 23 – April 20
  • Asian Network of Documentary (AND) Fund Application Dates: April 25 – May 20

ACF opens applications for the Post-Production Fund and Script Development Fund from March 23 to April 20 and AND Fund from April 25 to May 20. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, ACF had been on hold for 2 years and is starting again this year.

ACF directly supports feature films and documentaries and defends the diversity of Korean and Asian films. He took on the role of introducing the films worldwide. ACF kicks off with BIFF’s Asian Contents & Film Market (ACFM) and is expected to grow in the market, connecting selected projects to the film industry.

The films selected by ACF have distinguished themselves in prestigious festivals around the world. Hummingbird House
(2018) directed by Kim Bora and To move on (2019) directed by Yoon Dan-bi, the films supported by the ACF Post-Production Fund, crowned awards at BIFF and won prizes at international film festivals. Children of the mist directed by Ha Le Diem, selection of the AND Fund 2019, officially invited to the Amsterdam International Documentary Film Festival 2021. blue island directed by Chan Tze Woon, 2018 AND Fund film, selected in Bright Future of International Film Festival Rotterdam 2022. If the weather is nice (2021) directed by Carlo Francisco Manatad, film supported by the Script Development Fund 2014, went to the Locarno Film Festival 2021 and the Toronto International Film Festival 2021.

There are also films presented at the 26th edition of BIFF; The girl with the bulldozer (2014 Script Development Fund Selection) directed by Park Ri-woong will be released domestically on April 7;
country of memory (selection of the Script Development Fund 2016) by Kim Quy Bui was invited to the Berlinale Forum 2022;
Rehana (2017 Script Development Fund selection) by Abdullah Mohammad Saad selected for Un Certain Regard at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival; 206: Unearthed (selection of Fonds Mecenat AND BIFF 2018) by Heo Chul-nyung and an observation documentary film, Odoriko (2018 selection AND BIFF Fonds Mecenat) received praise from the media and the public.

2022 ACF is held in three categories including Post-Production Fund, Script Development Fund, and Asian Documentary Network (AND) Fund.

The Script Development Fund is limited to Asian projects and eligible to directors of their first or second feature films to provide more opportunities for emerging directors. ACF Post-Production Fund 2022

  • Entry Dates: March 23 – April 20, 2022 (11:59 p.m. KST)

  • Eligibility: The feature film project must complete editing by May 2022 and the directors must be of Asian nationality.
  • Grant: in-kind support for post-production (DI, sound mixing, scouting for English subtitles and DCP)
  • The finished film is to have its world premiere at the 27th Busan International Film Festival.

  • Eligibility: Documentary feature project by a Korean and Asian director at all stages of production (pre-production, shooting, post-production) that aims to be released in theaters
  • Grant: up to KRW 20 million cash grant
