Tips for the Revelation Perth International Film Festival 2021

the Perth International Revelation Film Festival is available again from July 1 to 11. If you haven’t heard of this festival (where have you been) the quickest way to explain it is to ask… “when was the last time you saw a cool t-shirt with its own?” QR code and its augmented reality ”? Never? Correct. This is the Rev Festival for you. Make sure to check it out.

Now in its 24th year, the Festival features independent filmmakers from around the world and around the corner. You have the choice between documentaries, award-winning feature films and short films. Plus, if you really love cinema, there is a series of workshops to keep you occupied.

“We have films about environmentalism, politics, sounds, maturity and aging, music and art. And a fairground story too! Things are getting exciting… ”said Jack Sargeant, Program Director.

My tips for this year include:

Buy a T-shirt before they sell

Not only is it a cool t-shirt, but it will definitely become a collector’s item, with its unique QR code bringing the image on the t-shirt to life. It also means that you are helping to keep the festival going.

The murder of two lovers See again

I saw this movie at media night and have to say it turned out to be a bit of a divisor. It’s the story of a man who tries to keep his family together after he and his wife go their separate ways. I found it to have a compelling minimalist soundtrack, a twist that really shocks and scares you, as well as brilliantly realistic play of father and kids. It won’t be for everyone but maybe for you.

A night of shorts

I love a good night of shorts. About 10 minutes each, if you don’t like a movie, there’s another on the way. It also gives you a taste of which directors to look for. This year, 5 different types of shorts are offered, including: Australian Gothic Shorts; Experimental showcase; and science fiction to name a few. If you feel like you’ve seen it all, I highly recommend a shorts night.

Other feature films that look interesting include:

I haven’t seen any, but the article sounds interesting: Paul Dood’s Deadly Lunch Break; Out of the blue; We’re not here to fuck spiders; The night of the beast; A Brixton Story; and bad girls.

Documentaries of interest are:

These documentaries seem worth the detour: All Light Everywhere; The best battles; Délia Derbyshire; The most beautiful boy in the world; White noise and a sort of paradise.
